Open Source for Public Administrations

(COSPA) THE IST FP6 COSPA project intends to help Public Administrations reducing expenses for commercial software licenses through applying Open Data Standards (ODS) and Open Source (OS) software. COSPA aims at introducing, analysing, and supporting the use of Open Source software for personal productivity and document management in European PAs. A detailed and objective study on whether the migration to Open Source Software is actually producing advantages will be conducted. To date there have already been a number of initiatives aimed at introducing OS software in European PAs. However, mainly performed at a local level, they lack coordination, sharing of knowledge or practices and rigorous cost/benefit analysis. http://www.cospa-project.org
