According to data published by Arcep, the French telecoms regulatory authority, the total number of broadband connections in the country reached 16.7 million by 30 June, an 18% increase on the corresponding period of 2007 but lower than the 27% growth reported the year before. In the second quarter of 2008 Arcep said a net 450,000 new additions were added, a 2.8% quarterly growth. Of the overall total at end-June, 15.9 million were accessing the internet via xDSL, it said.
