Al Jazeera launches citizen journalism video

The Al Jazeera network recently launched Sharek, a citizen journalism platform. In Arabic, Sharek means to contribute or share. Through Sharek, users can upload video of what is happening in their region. Videos can be recorded through webcams, videocams or mobile phones. After videos are uploaded, Al Jazeera journalists review them and choose the most newsworthy to post on the Sharek Web site. The new project is similar to CNN's iReport, however the material on Sharek is screened before it is posted.
