The European Commission services responsible for the management of the Information Society Technologies (IST) thematic priority in the EU's Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (RTD) have drawn up a document as a starting point to explore the views of a broad set of interested parties on the future of European research in ICT.
The document highlights the crucial role played by ICT in economy and society. It shows that RTD is key to mastering, assimilating and exploiting these technologies, and it proposes objectives and priorities for European ICT research.
You are invited to comment on the future of European ICT research, and in particular on the issues addressed in the document.
The Commission services will analyse the first set of comments starting from mid-November 2004.
Note that the document does not represent an official position of the European Commission, nor do its orientations prejudge the form and content of any future Commission proposal or activity in relation to RTD in ICT.
