Japan’s NEC has won a contract to supply Hungary’s second largest cellco by subscribers Pannon with a national optical transport network, as it looks to meet increasing customer demand for new mobile applications and services. Under the deal, NEC will provide Metro WDM equipment from its partner Transmode to upgrade Pannon's national network in Hungary, as well as providing design and operational support services. Pannon has experienced strong growth in data traffic in the past two years and the NEC solution will maximise the capacity of existing infrastructure and can be upgraded from coarse WDM to dense WDM working on either a single fibre or a fibre pair. This can accommodate capacity from STM-4, STM-16, up to Gigabit Ethernet channels. NEC has been a strategic supplier to Pannon for over a decade, providing various technologies including a network platform.
