Bloggers who write about the role of media in democratic development can enter a competition. The contest, sponsored by the Communication Initiative (CI) and the BBC World Service Trust (WST), solicits persuasive critiques and discussion on the relationship between media, communications and international development policy. The main audience for the blog, entitled “Communication, Media and Development Policy,” is governments and civil society. Bloggers may submit up to five blog posts between 300 and 1,500 words about development policy. Posts should be written in a way that assumes a potentially skeptical audience and in a way that makes few assumptions about a reader's existing knowledge or sympathies with the arguments put forward. The top ten bloggers will receive GBP 240 (about USD 390) and will be asked to write three additional posts. The top two most controversial bloggers will receive GBP 50 (about USD 80). Applicants must register as members of CI Networks in order to participate.
