The UAE has launched an update to its e-government portal which will allow users to pay bills such as traffic fines and DEWA accounts as well as provide access to core services for government entities and employees. At the launch of the new e-services portal, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, VP and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai said that e-transformation in UAE and the provision of federal and local services through one gateway helps to enhance competitiveness and open up broader prospects for direct communication with community groups. He said that e-services will also work to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of governmental work in the state. The new e-services website now also features access to social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube and is available on BlackBerry, iPhone and Android smartphones. The e-portal has several different tabs on the website, each dedicated to information for a particular type of user. The tabs are labeled Citizens, Residents, Businesses, Visitors and Government Entities. The website is available in both English and Arabic.
