Dr Quach Tuan Ngoc, Director General, ICT Department, Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) told FutureGov that his department had benefited from using cloud computing. In a document released recently, the ICT department has instructed local education and training departments to shift to cloud computing. “We use Google and Viettel services,” said Ngoc.
According to Ngoc, cloud is suitable for the education sector and would lead to significant cost benefits. “We have many schools in this sector. Each school needs one server and one website. With cloud computing, we will not waste time, money or effort in installing, updating and maintenance. We have just completed our national examinations in July. Cloud computing will make it much more efficient when there are so many students accessing our system.”
The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment (MONRE) is another case in point. MONRE has cut down 20 % of investment costs after the initial period of virtualising IT infrastructure. Going forward, MONRE has a strategy in place for using cloud computing in IT applications. The ministry is also trying to put in place procedures, standards and policies so that cloud can be used towards providing public services.
