Custom domain names to reshape Internet

Beginning in January, customized top-level domain names will be available for purchase under ICANN's new Generic Top Level Domain Program. Those seeking such domains must pay $185,000 and prove they can sustain their enterprise for years to come. The move, however, has drawn criticism from the IAB and others, with big industries possibly facing pressure to buy up several such domains and consumer confusion seen as a likely consequence.
