The Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Govt of India will be organizing a day-long workshop on the theme, “Citizen Centric e-Government”, in Mumbai, tomorrow in association with the Department of IT, Government of Maharashtra, and NASSCOM. This consultative meet is part of the 50 workshops being organised in all States and Union Territories (UTs) to amplify the mission and message of the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) – ‘Public Services Closer Home’.

Knowledge-based country programs: An evaluation of the World Bank Group experience
This evaluation assesses knowledge-based activities in nine country programs selected from 48 knowledge-intensive programs supported by the Bank Group. It identifies the factors in the success or failure of those activities as they contribute to policy making or development outcomes. It also identifies areas of strength for the Bank Group as well as areas of weakness or risk.
The evaluation findings are therefore relevant to current Bank Group efforts to strengthen the contribution of knowledge to development. The evaluation was done on economic and sector work and non-lending technical assistance activities selected from a purposive sample of knowledge-intensive country programs. In addition, the evaluation assessed International Finance Corporation Advisory Services for their synergy with the Bank’s analytical and advisory activities. The findings have implications for the Bank Group’s knowledge work, including governance and incentives.

World's Oldest Newspaper Quits Print
Lloyd's
List, which lays claim to be the world's oldest continuously published
newspaper, is to become a totally digital entity by the end of this year. The
paper, founded in 1734, is regarded as the leading news, analysis and data
source for the global shipping industry. So the decision by its owning company,
Informa, to stop printing is rightly viewed as a landmark moment.

Commission launches 'Opening up Education' to boost innovation and digital skills in schools and universities
More than 60% of nine year olds in
the EU are in schools which are still not digitally equipped. The European
Commission today unveils 'Opening up Education', an action plan to tackle this
and other digital problems which are hampering schools and universities from
delivering high quality education and the digital skills which 90% of jobs will
require by 2020. To help kick-off the initiative, the Commission today launches
a new website, Open Education Europa, which will allow students, practitioners
and educational institutions to share free-to-use open educational resources.
