Recently, while exchanging views with an acute and well-informed observer of European politics, I was told: "I share most of the telecom industry's concerns on how the debate is evolving, but net neutrality is like puppies. You can only say that you love them."

Map of Future ICT4D Research Priorities

Analysis of the gaps between current ICT4D research and the future post-2015 development agenda, leading to identification of 16 core research priorities.  The research agenda for each is described alongside the more general need for ICT4D research to break out of the “ICT4D bubble” and engage more with the development mainstream.  The paper then creates a map of post-2015 development informatics research priorities; a map which will be of significant value to academic and other researchers planning their future ICT4D activities.  The paper ends by contemplating what the key narrative will be for the coming “fifth wave” of ICT4D research: sustainable informatics, inclusive informatics, or Development 2.0.

404 Day: A Day of Action Against Censorship in Libraries

Join EFF on April 4^th for 404 Day, a nation-wide day of action to call attention to the long-standing problem of Internet censorship in public libraries and public schools. In collaboration with the MIT Center for Civic Media and the National Coalition Against Censorship, we are hosting a digital teach-in with some of the top researchers and librarians working to analyze and push back against the use of Internet filters on library computers.
