Finnish-based IT engineering firm Tieto will help Austrian energy distribution company Wiener Nietze to install 1.6 million smart meters.
Tieto will provide software services for planning the deployment and the mobile system.
The news follows Wienner Nietze accepting a proposal for the provision of smart meters, which was filed by a consortium consisting of Siemens, Landis+Gyr and Iskraemeco.
The consortium will provide both the required technology (IT, transmission technology, meters) and the services (logistics, testing, operational management etc.) for the roll-out.
Wiener Netze is going to deploy the smart meters with Siemens as the prime contractor in Vienna and its surroundings.
Tieto claims its Smart Utility system will enable Siemens to manage a fully digitised flow from planning to installation of smart meters with a high degree of automation, while meeting security requirements of Wiener Netze and the Austrian regulator.
Tieto says it will use its smart meter rollout experience which the company acquired in various Scandinavian projects.
