New Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty transmitter to be launched in Lithuania

A new transmitter will be launched in Lithuania this week for broadcasting the Russian and Belarusian-language services of the US Congress-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) aimed at countering Russian propaganda, reports LETA/BNS.

Open Society Foundation of South Africa, Omidyar Network and MDIF launch South Africa Media Innovation Program

29 August 2017, Johannesburg: Today saw the launch of the South Africa Media Innovation Program (SAMIP) to provide dedicated funding and capacity building support to independent media in the country, focused on digital innovation. The Program will promote innovation in the sector, fund the development of public interest digital publications with a focus on young audiences, and drive transformation and foster new and diverse voices.

The Media Pluralism Monitor – 2016 results

In 2016, the Media Pluralism Monitor (#MPM2016) covered the 28 European Union Member States as well as two candidate countries. The results show that none of these countries is free from risks.

The Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom (CMPF) of the European University Institute has released the results of the 2016 independent implementation of the Media Pluralism Monitor (MPM), which measures risks to media pluralism in Europe.
