Kerlink expands footprint in the Netherlands, supporting a novel, smart-city network in Rotterdam based on a multifunctional platform that supports future-proof smart cities

Called CENT-R, the modular, LoRaWAN-based platform can be adapted to continuously meet evolving municipal needs for new applications and services. For example, modules attached to light poles can be switched out depending on the city’s immediate needs for electronic and digital services, including electric-vehicle (EV) charging, converting uninterruptible power to a DC power network, 5G cellular networks, CCTV or traffic cameras, as well as LED-based, smart street lighting and parking management. The light pole housing also contains sensors for 24-7 monitoring of air-quality, sound and weather.

Burgas on the way to becoming the first 5G city in Bulgaria

Burgas is among the top performing cities in Bulgaria when it comes to the length of the municipal optical network. An indicator which enables the seaside city to become the first 5G city in the country with full network coverage. This emerged after a meeting between Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov and Radosvet Radev – Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA) President – on 18 August 2020. On its part, BIA will commit to help with contacts and consulting assistance in the building of an IT hub to develop the new 5G network in the city.

London: The GSMA today announced the launch of the GSMA Inclusive Tech Lab, which will take a hands-on approach to research, testing and development of the inclusive technologies of the future. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has provided three years of funding for the GSMA Inclusive Tech Lab, and will sit on the Advisory Group alongside industry representatives including GoPay, IDEMIA, KaiOS, Mowali, Telenor, the University of Washington, VEON and Vodafone.
