In Europe, initiatives to increase citizen participation have made substantial progress, but there are severe difficulties to overcome if these participative forums are to address the core issues of democratic decline and contribute more significantly to its restoration.

A tech startup company created a precise record of every parking spot, fire hydrant, and loading zone on more than 100 miles of Philadelphia streets — data on the city’s curbs that could be a valuable tool for managing street congestion in Philadelphia.

World Bank and Partners Launch US$ 12 million Fund to Help Countries Increase Government Transparency, Accountability and Responsiveness

TBILISI, July 19, 2018 — With the goal of supporting governments and civil society in countries and sub-nationals that participate in the Open Government Partnership (OGP) to increase government transparency, improve accountability and strengthen citizen engagement and government responsiveness, the World Bank and development partners have launched the OGP Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF).

Introducing Data Transfer Project: an open source platform promoting universal data portability

 

 

In 2007, a small group of engineers in our Chicago office formed the Data Liberation Front, a team that believed consumers should have better tools to put their data where they want, when they want, and even move it to a different service. This idea, called “data portability,” gives people greater control of their information, and pushes us to develop great products because we know they can pack up and leave at any time.
